Libraries and Social Media

Social Media allow Libraries to connect and interact with more people in their communities. Libraries use Twitter and Facebook to inform patrons of upcoming events, local news, Library programs and new acquisitions.
Libraries use blogs for book reviews and create informative posts about their Library collections.
Libraries use Youtube to share video footage of special events they have held.

Techs'Day

So happy I was able to attend Techs' Day on Tuesday. It was great to meet some other students in the course. Thank you for making me welcome. It was great listening to the girls from SLV talking about the variety of work they do at the Library. I have only worked in school libraries and although I love what I do, working in a public library offers a lot more challenging duties.

I have received some of the CBCA shortlisted books for 2014 and when I go back to work on Monday, get them catalogued and present them to the students at school. It is a great time sharing these excellent Australian books to the kids. Happy days.

Kerrin is back

Hi everyone,

Arrived home on Thursday afternoon tired and it is so cold here. Friday unpacked and started the washing. Washing so boring. Logged on to course to see what I missed out on while I was away. So much to catch up on, don't know where to start. Totally confused about everything.
Tried again on Saturday, still could not get my head around things.

Abel, my beautiful grandson

This is my beautiful grandson, Abel. He was born five weeks premature and without the lower half of his spine and therefore does not have full movement in his hips, legs and feet. Abel has had two heart operations and problems eating. But here he is at 14 months old and our little miracle. As you can see he is now able to sit up and he moves around commando style (he lifts his chest and drags himself along with his arms. Every time I feel down or overwhelmed by work, I look at a photo of Abel and tell myself to build a bridge and get over it.

I have started a library for him and having so much fun visiting book shops and choosing books for him.

To start......

I have made it this far, I am creating a blog, HOORAY!
This weekend my family and friends are taking part in the Geelong Relay for Life. It is a 24 hour relay raising money for cancer research. Could be really sore and tired on Monday, pity my work colleagues and students when they ask for a book or resource on the top shelf.
